Samui by Cabriolet: The Ultimate Photo Session Locations
A complete guide to the most cinematic roads and spots on the island by Joy Journey
Cruising around a tropical island in a pristine white BMW convertible with a crimson leather interior is not just transport—it is pure emotion and style. Koh Samui was made for open-top driving: the warm breeze, the scent of the sea, the rustle of palm trees overhead. We have curated an exclusive route that combines wild jungles, secluded beaches, and breathtaking sunset panoramas. Fill up the tank, drop the top, and get your cameras ready!
Photo Route Map
We marked the best stops around the island and the main panoramic road through the center

1. Bang Por Beach — Palm-Lined Coastline
Bang Por Beach is the perfect place to start your journey. Unlike busy Chaweng, peace and quiet reign here. The main feature of this location is the dirt driveways and narrow paved roads running right along the beach under the shade of coconut palms bending toward the turquoise water. Here you can park your cabriolet practically at the water's edge and take a classic 'car, palms, ocean' shot. The outlines of neighboring Koh Phangan are beautifully drawn on the horizon.

2. Mae Nam Shortcut Mountain Pass
The Mae Nam Shortcut is a scenic mountain pass connecting the north of the island (Mae Nam area, Soi 5) and the south. A narrow paved road winds through palm groves and dense jungle. This is the best place for dynamic shots in motion, as the palm treetops rush above the open roof of your BMW convertible. Feel the thrill of driving through mountain hairpins surrounded by wild nature.

3. Taling Ngam Sunset Lookout
A rocky cliff in the Taling Ngam area on the southwestern coast is the best spot to watch the sunset on Koh Samui. The road leads steeply up to the lookout point. From here, you get a view of the Gulf of Thailand and the silhouettes of the five uninhabited islands (Koh Haa). Park the white BMW on the edge of the cliff. As the sun begins to sink into the water, painting the sky in incredible shades of orange, pink, and purple, your cabriolet will look like it is on the cover of a glossy magazine.

4. Thong Krut Fishing Village & Pier (Coral Harbor Pier)
End your road trip in the quiet fishing village of Thong Krut in the far south of the island. The beach here is shallow, and dozens of traditional wooden longtail boats with colorful ribbons rock near the shore. The real treasure for a photographer is the long concrete Coral Harbor Pier. You can drive right onto it (with permission from locals or carefully during quiet hours). The car against the background of the endless water surface and the outlines of Koh Tan island in the rays of the setting sun looks incredibly monumental and stylish.
Tips for the Perfect Cabriolet Photoshoot
A few simple recommendations for shooting in a convertible from our team
Golden Hour
The best time to shoot near the water and at viewpoints is from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The light becomes soft and golden, avoiding harsh shadows on the car's body.
Secure Your Belongings
Never leave valuables (bags, phones, cameras) visible in the cabin of a parked convertible with the top down. Even if you step away for a short moment, take them with you or store them in the locked trunk.
Camera Settings
For driving shots, use a shutter speed of around 1/80 or 1/100 of a second with panning—this will beautifully blur the background while emphasizing the car's dynamics.
Sun Protection
Be sure to apply sunscreen and wear stylish sunglasses and a hat. In a convertible, the sun burns quickly and unnoticed due to the cooling wind.
